Protesters marched through the streets of Valletta calling for the decriminalisation of abortion, in a powerful demonstration centred on reproductive health and women’s rights. The march brought together a large crowd of activists, supporters and concerned citizens who walked through the capital holding banners and chanting slogans demanding legal reform and greater access to reproductive healthcare.
The demonstration highlighted the ongoing national debate surrounding abortion in Malta, which remains one of the few countries in Europe where abortion is still criminalised in all circumstances. Participants stressed that the current law puts women’s health and lives at risk and called for a more compassionate and rights-based approach to reproductive health.
Organisers of the protest said the march was intended to send a clear message to policymakers that public attitudes are changing and that there is growing support for reform. They also emphasised the importance of open dialogue, education and access to safe and legal healthcare services for all women.
The protest in Valletta passed peacefully, with a strong police presence ensuring order while the crowd continued to voice its demands for change and equality.
