US President Donald Trump remains in “excellent health” and is “fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State,” according to a three-page memo released by the White House on Friday, May 30, 2026, following his annual physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center earlier in the week. White House physician US Navy Captain Sean Barbabella wrote that Trump, who turns 80 on June 14, demonstrated “strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function” and that “cognitive and physical performance are excellent”. The report noted Trump’s cardiac age is estimated to be “approximately 14 years younger than his chronological age,” and he scored “30 out of 30” on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a test of mental function.
Despite the positive overall assessment, Barbabella provided preventive counseling that included “guidance on diet, recommendation to take a low-dose aspirin, increased physical activity, and continued weight loss”. At six feet three inches tall, Trump weighed 238 pounds, up 14 pounds from the 224 pounds recorded at his last full annual medical in April 2025. The memo said the president is on three medications: two for cholesterol control, rosuvastatin and ezetimibe, and a low-dose aspirin for cardiac prevention.
The physical, Trump’s third since returning to office in 2025, comes amid increased scrutiny of presidential health and follows speculation about bruising on his hands and apparent sleepiness during meetings. Barbabella addressed the hand bruising, stating that examination of the dorsal hands revealed ecchymosis “consistent with minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshaking in the setting of aspirin use for cardiovascular prevention”. The memo also referenced “slight lower leg swelling” that had improved from last year, which the White House previously attributed to chronic venous insufficiency. Trump also has scarring on his right ear from the July 2024 assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
The exam included comprehensive laboratory testing and consultations with 22 specialty providers from multiple academic institutions. All lab results were within normal bounds, and neurological function was normal. Trump called the results “PERFECT” in a post on Truth Social shortly after the appointment, and has frequently touted his cognitive test results, saying he “aced” the assessment. At 79, Trump is the oldest person to ever assume the presidency, and the White House emphasized that his “active lifestyle continues to contribute significantly” to his well-being despite a demanding daily schedule of high-level meetings and public appearances.
