A man has been seriously injured after falling while working on board a vessel at Peterhead Harbour in Aberdeenshire. The incident occurred on July 23, when emergency services were called to the ASCO supply base in the Burnhaven area at around 7 am. The 41-year-old man was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after falling from scaffolding while erecting it in preparation for a tank cleaning operation on the offshore supply vessel.
The vessel was docked at the base, and fortunately, the man did not fall overboard. Asco, the energy logistics giant, confirmed that the tank did not contain hazardous materials. The company’s spokesperson expressed concern for the injured person’s well-being, stating that the safety of their colleagues is a top priority. All operations at the South Base were temporarily halted as a precautionary measure while investigations are conducted.
The Health and Safety Executive has been informed, and an investigation into the incident is underway. Police Scotland and other emergency services, including the Scottish Ambulance Service and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, responded to the incident. The man was attended to by emergency responders before being transported to the hospital.
