Denmark has summoned the US ambassador in response to President Donald Trump’s appointment of Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as special envoy to Greenland, sparking tensions between the two nations. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen expressed his deep anger over the move, deeming it “totally unacceptable” and demanding respect for Denmark’s sovereignty. The appointment has reignited concerns about US interests in Greenland, a resource-rich and strategically located Danish territory. Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen emphasized that the island’s future will be decided by its people, stating “Greenland belongs to Greenlanders, and territorial integrity must be respected”.
