The Nationalist Party has warned of serious staff shortages in schools as the new academic year approaches, raising concerns about the impact on students and the quality of education. According to the PN, several schools are struggling to recruit enough teachers and support staff, a situation that could lead to larger class sizes, increased pressure on existing personnel and disruption to learning.
The party argued that the shortages are a result of inadequate planning and a lack of long-term investment in the education workforce, and called on the government to take urgent action to address the gaps. It also stressed that attracting and retaining qualified educators requires better working conditions, professional support and clearer career prospects.
In contrast, the Labour Party has highlighted its record of investment in education, pointing to recent projects involving school infrastructure, digital resources and training programmes. Labour said these initiatives demonstrate its commitment to improving educational standards and providing students and teachers with the tools they need to succeed.
The contrasting statements have fuelled a wider political debate over the state of Malta’s education system, with both sides presenting very different views on its current challenges and achievements.
