Malta to Welcome Surviving Members of Gaza’s al-Najjar Family

After nine of their ten children died in an Israeli airstrike, the al-Najjar family will find shelter in Malta. Gaza saw a terrible loss for them. Prime Minister Robert Abela announced the choice, noting the family would be greeted as soon as the father was ready to travel.

After Gaza’s civil defence verified that the bodies of the children were found from the houses of Hamdi and Alaa al-Najgar, the family’s tragedy attracted attention. The assault left both parents and their one surviving child gravely hurt.

PM Abela stressed Malta’s dedication to humanitarian aid in a Facebook post:

In recent days we have witnessed a human tragedy where a pediatrician who treated so many children in Gaza ended up losing nine of her ten children herself. Her husband and only surviving child are seriously injured.
On Sunday, I made an offer to welcome this family to our country to provide them with the care and support they need. In the last few hours, through the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health, we have begun the procedures so that when the father is able to travel, this step can be taken and, as we have already done with so many other families, we can welcome the al-Najjar family.
While we continue to provide humanitarian aid, our country will remain a constant voice in favor of a ceasefire so that peace can reign and so many innocent lives will no longer be lost.

Malta’s increased backing for Gaza’s victims

Malta has given several wounded Palestinian children—including those with burns, amputated limbs, and trauma injuries medical treatment lately. Children formerly appreciated include:

Three-year-old Selah Hajras brought Malta for urgent medical treatment
Ten-year-old Lara Abu Alkas was hurt in an Al-Shifa Hospital December air strike

This most recent statement highlights Malta’s continuing humanitarian reaction to the war in Gaza, especially concentrating on families and children impacted by airstrikes and conflict-related trauma.
