A photography exhibition featuring images from Sudan and Egypt will open in Sliema, Malta, on Friday, May 29, 2026, as part of a fundraiser supporting displaced Sudanese children living in Cairo. The exhibition, titled Frames of Hope by photographer Diana Iskander, runs from 29 to 31 May at Christine X Art Gallery and is being organised in collaboration with Rotaract Club Malta to raise funds for Tree House Nursery in Cairo. Iskander’s documentary-style photographs were taken over more than a decade of travel in Sudan and Egypt and focus on everyday life, street scenes, and portraits built through long-term relationships with local communities. The opening night on 29 May includes a live auction of three large-format photographs personally selected by the photographer, and other framed works will also be available for purchase during the exhibition, with proceeds going directly to the Cairo-based nursery through Rotaract Club Malta.

Tree House Nursery was founded in 2023 and supports Sudanese children displaced by conflict. According to organisers, the nursery currently serves around 30 children aged between six months and five years old and operates five classrooms staffed by eight teachers. Speaking ahead of the exhibition, Iskander said the photographs had “never found their public voice until now”. Born and raised in Hungary with Egyptian roots, Iskander has previously received recognition from the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for her photography work in Sudan. She currently works as a professional photographer and entrepreneur and also serves as vice president of Rotaract Club Malta. The exhibition opens at 7pm on 29 May and admission is free.
