The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) is moving forward with plans to establish a judicial standards tsar, a move aimed at enhancing accountability and transparency within the judiciary. According to the OPM, the backing of the Public Protector’s (PN) office is not required to introduce this initiative, which is seen as a significant step towards ensuring the judiciary operates with the highest standards of integrity and impartiality.

This development underscores the government’s commitment to judicial reform and its determination to address concerns around judicial accountability. The proposed judicial standards tsar would play a crucial role in overseeing the implementation of ethical standards and best practices within the judiciary, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the rule of law and public trust in the judicial system.
