A new chapter is opening for Malta’s English-language education sector as Positively Languages, the leading international language learning business formerly known as Kaplan Languages Group, has announced the launch of Positively Languages Malta in the heart of St Julian’s, taking over the premises formerly occupied by EC Group which closed its global network of 25 schools in September 2026 citing challenging financial conditions. Unveiled on 29 October 2026 as part of a wider rebrand following the group’s acquisition by UK private equity firm Inspirit Capital in May 2026, the new school is set to become one of the largest on the island with more than 25 classrooms, offering students the chance to combine high-quality English learning with an unforgettable international experience in what continues to be one of the most popular destinations in the world to learn English. The establishment, which will teach English, French and German to learners of all ages and builds on more than 20 years of experience teaching over one million students from 140 countries, represents both continuity and renewal for the St Julian’s site, with a company spokesperson confirming that the firm has already welcomed a small number of former EC team members and expects to create further employment opportunities as the school grows, while focusing on rebranding the building in advance of student arrivals expected very soon.

The opening comes alongside a parallel expansion in London where Positively Languages has opened new premises at 4 Bloomsbury Place next door to its existing school, embodying the new brand principle that experience moves you forward. Executive Chair William Wellesley said the group was excited to be launching as Positively Languages and in the same week opening both a new school in Malta and new premises in London, signalling a strategy focused on experience-led products in major cultural destinations. While the company has not disclosed investment costs, enrolment figures or its local operating licence details, it has offered places at the new school to students previously displaced by the EC closure, ensuring that the former EC premises quickly return to their educational purpose and that Malta’s reputation as a premier English learning hub is strengthened rather than diminished by the recent market turbulence.
