Netanyahu Says Israel Sent Message ‘Clearly’ To Turkey In Syria

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel has made its position “clearly” known to Turkey through its actions in Syria, in remarks that point to rising friction between the two countries over influence inside the war-torn state.

Speaking amid renewed Israeli strikes and military activity in southern Syria, Netanyahu argued that Israel will not accept any new hostile entrenchment near its border, and that the recent operations were intended as both a defensive step and a signal to Ankara. He did not detail the exact nature of the message, but the timing suggests it was a response to reports of expanded Turkish presence and coordination with local actors in parts of Syria.

Turkey has grown increasingly active in northern and central Syria in recent years, backing certain groups and pushing back against Kurdish forces. Israel, for its part, has long carried out strikes to prevent Iranian weapons transfers and to keep hostile forces away from the Golan Heights. The overlap of those interests has now brought Israel and Turkey into closer, and more tense, proximity.

Netanyahu’s comments frame Israel’s moves as preventative rather than escalatory, saying the goal is to maintain freedom of action and to deter any actor, including Turkey, from establishing a foothold that could threaten Israeli security. Turkish officials have not responded directly to the “message” remark, but Ankara has previously warned against foreign interference in Syria and has positioned itself as a key power broker there.

The exchange underscores how Syria has become a crowded theater where multiple regional powers are testing limits. For Israel, the priority remains keeping Iran and its proxies at bay. For Turkey, it is about security zones and influence. Netanyahu’s statement makes clear that Jerusalem now sees Ankara as part of that equation, and that it intends to push back just as firmly.
