A car drove into a crowd near Berlin’s Gay Pride celebrations, leaving one person dead and several others in critical condition, in what has shaken the city during one of its biggest annual events.

The incident happened in the area surrounding the parade route, where thousands had gathered to take part in and watch the festivities. Witnesses described scenes of panic as the vehicle veered into pedestrians, with emergency services rushing to the scene within minutes. Paramedics treated the injured on the street before transporting them to nearby hospitals, where several remain in serious condition.

Police cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into what caused the crash. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether it was deliberate or accidental, and said they are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses. Security around the Pride events was immediately increased as a precaution, with officials urging people to remain calm while the inquiry continues.

Berlin Pride draws huge crowds each year and is meant to be a celebration of diversity and inclusion. The tragedy has cast a shadow over the day, with organizers, participants, and city leaders expressing shock and offering condolences to the family of the person who died.

As the investigation proceeds, the focus remains on supporting the victims and their families. City officials said counseling and assistance would be made available, while police continue to work to establish exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the crash.
