Ukraine’s former Energy Minister, German Galushchenko, has been arrested while trying to leave the country, amid a corruption scandal involving a $100 million kickback scheme at state-owned Energoatom. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) detained Galushchenko as part of the “Midas” case, which has implicated several senior officials and business elites. Galushchenko, who resigned in November 2025, is accused of receiving personal benefits from the scheme. The arrest highlights Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption, a key requirement for its bid to join the European Union.
