Novak Djokovic playfully joked that he wants a slice of Carlos Alcaraz’s winnings after noticing the Spaniard’s new serve technique bears a striking resemblance to his own. The Serbian tennis star, currently competing in the Australian Open, sent Alcaraz a message about “copyrights” and even mentioned he’d expect a tribute every time Alcaraz hits an ace. Djokovic made the humorous comment after his 100th Australian Open win against Pedro Martinez, saying, “I told him, ‘We have to talk about a percentage of his winnings’”.
Alcaraz, the world number one, seemed flattered by the comparison but insisted the similarity was coincidental, stating he wasn’t trying to mimic Djokovic’s serve. The 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic is now set to face Italian qualifier Francesco Maestrelli in the second round.
