Udinese have completed the signing of former Real Madrid defender David Alaba on a free transfer, in a major coup for the Italian club. The Austrian international joins the Serie A side after bringing his spell with the Spanish giants to an end, and his arrival is expected to add significant experience and quality to Udinese’s defensive line.
Alaba, who is widely regarded as one of the most versatile defenders of his generation, is capable of playing both as a centre back and as a left back, and his leadership and tactical intelligence will be invaluable for the team. Having won numerous domestic and European titles during his time at Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, he brings a winning mentality and a wealth of top level experience to the Friuli Stadium.
Udinese officials said the signing underlines the club’s ambition to strengthen the squad and compete at a higher level in Serie A, and they expressed their delight at securing a player of Alaba’s calibre without a transfer fee. The defender is expected to undergo his medical and join his new teammates for training in the coming days ahead of the new season.
The move has been met with excitement from fans, who see Alaba’s arrival as a statement of intent and a boost to the club’s aspirations both domestically and in European competition.
