Strongly worded joint statement denouncing Israel’s management of humanitarian assistance to Gaza, Malta has joined 27 other nations accusing the Israeli government of inciting civilian suffering and breaking international law.

As Palestinians painfully seek food and water, the statement criticizes what it calls Israel’s “drip feeding of aid” and “inhumane killing of civilians, including children”. Particularly after claims that more than 100 Palestinians were shot by Israeli fire while waiting for food over the weekend, it asserts the delivery system has propelled civilian misery to “new depths.” Nineteen deaths from malnutrition were also registered by the Hamasrun health ministry.

“The Israeli government’s help distribution model is hazardous, creates instability, and strips Gazans of their human dignity,” the statement adds. It urges Israel to promptly remove restrictions on aid and let UN agencies and humanitarian staff to work safely and efficiently.

Among the signatories are the foreign ministries of European and Western countries including the UK, France, Ireland, Canada, Australia, Sweden, and Japan, as well as the EU Commissioner for Crisis Management. They warned against forced displacement and condemned West Bank settlement expansions, demanding that Israel adhere to international humanitarian law.

The nations also protested any Israeli plans to permanently relocate Palestinians into so-called “humanitarian cities,” arguing such forced migrations violated international law and endangered the viability of a two state solution.

Accusations were rejected by the Foreign Ministry of Israel as being “disconnected from reality” and Hamas was accused of abusing aid supplies and prolonging the conflict. Israeli authorities insisted the group was obstructing peace negotiations and hostage talks.

Reaffirming support for an “immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire,” the 28 countries urged the international community to step up diplomatic initiatives. They said they fully supported mediation initiatives sponsored by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.

The statement highlights rising worldwide unhappiness with the continuing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and growing calls for accountability and an end to the war.
