Tensions Escalate as Israel Strikes Yemen, Gaza, and Lebanon

Early Monday, shortly after Israeli soldiers conducted airstrikes directed at three ports and a power station in the Gulf country, Israel’s military announced that two missiles had been released from Yemen. Though inquiries continue, early Israeli assertions said that the missiles, reportedly launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement, were intercepted. There have been no deaths or property damage confirmed.

Following Houthi accusations over the weekend targeting Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, the airstrikes represent a dramatic upsurge. The incident has also spread into the Red Sea, where the crew of a Liberian-flagged vessel was compelled to leave ship following an assault and were thereafter saved.

In the meanwhile, with at least 82 Palestinians murdered, including 39 in Gaza City and 10 civilians awaiting food aid, the death toll in Gaza keeps growing. Areas in southern and eastern Lebanon have also been affected by Israeli assaults.

Diplomatic activities are becoming more intense as the war widens:

US President Donald Trump has said there is a “good possibility” of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas this week.

The BRICS countries—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—have issued a joint plea for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Palestinian land.

Following Israel’s divisive interception and confiscation of a prior humanitarian aid ship, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition is getting ready for a fresh mission at sea to bring relief to Gaza.
