Authorities said that 24-year-old Scottish wingsuit pilot Liam Byrne died in a catastrophic catastrophe while leaping on Gitschen Mountain in the Swiss Alps.

On Saturday, Byrne, of Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, ascended to 7,874ft (2,400m).

Having made over 4,000 jumps in his 10-year career, he was a very seasoned skydiver.

Shortly after he and two other finished a wingsuit flight, the accident happened. Swiss authorities are looking into something.

After being on the 2024 BBC documentary The Boy Who Can Fly, in which he stated wingsuiting to be his last form of freedom, Byrne gained notoriety.

“An office job scares me far more than the fear of dying from a base jump,” he once said.

From hiking Mount Kilimanjaro at age 12 to skydiving by 16, Byrne lived a life marked by great difficulties and rigorous preparation.

His parents Mike and Gillian said in a statement:

“Liam was fearless… he chased life in a way most of us only dream of. He soared.”

The UK Foreign Office verified it is helping his family.

With many remembering Byrne not just for his amazing acts but also for his kindness, bravery, and contagious energy, his death has stunned the extreme sports fraternity.
