Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has marked the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion with a defiant message, stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin “has not achieved his goals” and “has not won this war”. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine has defended its independence and will continue to fight for peace and justice. He thanked international partners for their support and urged sustained pressure on Moscow to end the conflict. The war has resulted in significant human suffering, with estimates suggesting up to 2 million casualties, including civilians, and widespread destruction.

European leaders have echoed Zelensky’s sentiments, with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz calling the war a “nightmare” for Ukrainians and Europeans alike. French President Emmanuel Macron described the invasion as a “triple failure” for Russia, militarily, economically, and strategically. Despite diplomatic efforts, including US-brokered talks, a resolution to the conflict remains elusive.
