US President Donald Trump has demanded that the Justice Department and FBI investigate the late alleged sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein’s connections to former Democratic President Bill Clinton. This move comes after a new trove of Epstein emails reignited questions about Trump’s own ties to the disgraced financier. Trump also called for a probe into US bank JPMorgan Chase, ex-Harvard president Larry Summers, and LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman, stating that records show these men spent significant time with Epstein and visited his island.
Trump accused Democrats of using the Epstein scandal as a distraction from their recent compromise to end a record US government shutdown, labeling it the “Epstein Hoax” involving Democrats, not Republicans. Attorney General Pam Bondi has assigned Jay Clayton, the top federal prosecutor in Manhattan, to lead the investigation.
The House of Representatives is expected to vote next week on demanding the release of Justice Department materials on Epstein, following a rebellion by a handful of MAGA lawmakers. Epstein died in prison in 2019, awaiting trial on federal sex charges, and questions about his alleged masterminding of a sex ring involving powerful men continue to mount.
