Cruise noted Kilmer’s iconic performance as Iceman in the 1986 film, therefore emphasizing how much he respected his work, valued him as an individual, and felt grateful and honored to have him on Top Gun.
Famous for his roles in films including The Doors, Batman Forever, and Heat, Kilmer had long been battling health problems, including throat cancer, that required several operations. Top Gun: Maverick (2022) was his final film appearance; his lines were delivered via text and a little spoken used.
