The Kremlin has accused the United Kingdom of obstructing peace efforts by providing Ukraine with information related to SCALP missiles, saying such actions are escalating the conflict rather than helping to end it.
In a statement, Russian officials claimed that British support in supplying technical data and targeting assistance for the long-range SCALP missiles is enabling Ukrainian forces to carry out strikes deeper inside contested areas. Moscow argued that this kind of military assistance undermines any chance for diplomatic negotiations and prolongs the fighting on the ground.
The SCALP missile, a long-range cruise missile jointly developed by the UK and France, has been among the weapons supplied to Ukraine by its Western allies. Ukraine has said the missiles are needed for its defence and to target military infrastructure, while the UK and other partners have maintained that their support is aimed at helping Ukraine defend its sovereignty.
The Kremlin’s latest comments come amid continued tensions over Western arms supplies to Kyiv, which Moscow has repeatedly criticised as direct involvement in the conflict. Russian officials said that by sharing sensitive missile information, the UK is taking a more active role and making a peaceful settlement harder to achieve.
London has not yet issued a detailed response to the specific claim, but British officials have previously said their military aid to Ukraine is lawful and consistent with international support for a country defending itself.
