Iran has warned it will respond “in kind” to any US attacks on its infrastructure, following President Donald Trump’s crude warning to target Iran’s power plants and bridges if the Strait of Hormuz isn’t reopened. Trump had set a Tuesday deadline for Iran to comply, stating that “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran”.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei responded, saying “Our armed forces would target any similar infrastructure that is owned or in any way or manner related to the United States or contributes to their act of aggression against Iran”. The US and Iran have been engaged in escalating tensions, with the US claiming to have rescued a downed F-15 pilot and Iran vowing to retaliate.
The conflict has disrupted global energy markets, with oil prices rising amid concerns over supply disruptions. Diplomatic efforts are underway, with Pakistan proposing a two-phase framework to end hostilities and Oman reportedly talking with Tehran about reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
