European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has expressed solidarity with Denmark and Greenland, stating that “Greenland is not for sale” and emphasizing the EU’s commitment to respecting the island’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. This comes after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on European allies unless they agree to sell Greenland, citing concerns about Russia and China’s influence in the Arctic region.
Metsola’s statement underscores the EU’s opposition to Trump’s proposal, with leaders from Denmark, Greenland, and other European nations rejecting the idea of selling the island. Protests have erupted in Denmark and Greenland, with demonstrators chanting “Greenland is not for sale” and holding banners with similar slogans.
