Valletta Ferry Services has launched its summer schedule for 2026, bringing extended operating hours and late-night crossings that make travelling by sea between Sliema, Valletta and the Three Cities more convenient for commuters, visitors and nightlife seekers alike. Running from June 1 to October 31, the summer timetable keeps the efficient catamaran ferries running all day, every day, with departures every 30 minutes starting as early as 06:45 from Sliema and 07:00 from Valletta. While the winter schedule ends at 19:30, the summer service continues into the night, with the last departures from Sliema at 23:45 and from Valletta at midnight, offering a practical alternative to congested roads and crowded buses during peak tourist season.

The extended hours are a direct response to passenger demand, particularly from retail and hospitality workers who previously missed the last winter crossing at 19:15, as well as residents and tourists wanting to enjoy Valletta’s restaurants, bars and cultural events without worrying about transport back to Sliema or the Three Cities. Transport Minister Joe Mizzi has described the longer operating window as justified, noting that it addresses both the increasing demand from locals and tourists exploring Malta’s vibrant nightlife and the needs of shift workers who often found themselves stranded after regular ferry hours. The change also supports local businesses, with bars, restaurants and entertainment venues in Valletta and Cospicua likely to see more patrons thanks to the reliable late connections.

Both the Sliema–Valletta and Valletta–Three Cities routes benefit from the summer update, with the Three Cities service also offering later evening ferries that come with a slightly higher night fare. Adult one-way tickets remain €2.50 during the day, with round-trip at €4.50, while fares after 19:00 increase modestly to €2.80 one way and €4.80 return. Children, seniors and frequent travellers can access discounted rates and weekly passes, though standard Malta public transport passes do not cover the ferry. The 10-minute crossing from Sliema to Valletta remains the fastest, most comfortable and economical way to travel between the two hubs, bypassing traffic and offering panoramic views of Manoel Island, Fort St Elmo and the Grand Harbour.

By listening to passenger feedback and adding new early-morning and late-evening trips, operator Marsamxetto Steam Ferry Services is reinforcing its vision of making sea travel the preferred mode of transport to reduce road congestion. The updated summer schedule not only improves daily commutes but also strengthens connectivity between Malta’s historic maritime cities, allowing easier participation in cultural events and supporting a nightlife economy that continues well past sunset. Full timetables and ticket information are available on the Valletta Ferry Services website.
