Storm Harry, a powerful extratropical cyclone, has left a trail of destruction in its wake, with damage claims totaling €12 million, primarily due to flooding. The storm, which battered Malta and surrounding regions in January 2026, caused widespread disruption, including power outages, property damage, and disruptions to daily life. The majority of the damage claims are attributed to flooding, which affected coastal areas, particularly in Marsaskala, where streets were inundated, shopfronts were shattered, and seawater entered buildings.

The storm’s impact was felt across various sectors, with emergency services responding to nearly 200 incidents, including uprooted trees, unstable structures, and electrical hazards. The authorities have opened a reporting window for farmers to submit claims for storm-related damage, which will be used to assess the national impact and potentially support a request for European financial aid.
