European Parliament President Roberta Metsola was formally received by French Prime Minister Michel Barnier in Paris, marking a significant moment in their working relationship. Metsola’s visit to Paris also included a keynote speech at the 6th Trilateral Business Forum, where she emphasized the European Parliament’s willingness to embrace change and drive growth. She stressed that Europe must act with both economic vision and political willingness to learn, adapt, and reform. Metsola also met with other prominent French officials, including the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noel Barrot, and the President of France’s National Assembly, Yael Braun-Pivet.
The meeting between Metsola and Barnier is seen as an opportunity to strengthen ties between the European Parliament and France. Barnier, a former European Commissioner and Brexit negotiator, has been welcomed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who praised his commitment to European interests.
