The historic Qbajjar Battery in Gozo, Malta, is in a state of disrepair, with its ceiling having collapsed, prompting the Lands Ministry and Heritage Malta to collaborate on removal of the danger and potential restoration. The 18th-century artillery battery, built by the Knights of St. John, is the last of its kind remaining in Gozo and has been abandoned since the 19th century. The Zebbug Gozo Local Council had repeatedly urged for immediate action to save the battery, citing its imminent danger of collapsing.

The government entities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to begin necessary work, with Heritage Malta allocating an architect to address the current danger and apply for planning permissions. The battery’s future will be decided with a focus on conserving its cultural heritage.
