The quake occurred in the Ionian Sea at a depth of around 52-65 kilometers, with the epicenter located 59 kilometers east-southeast of Reggio Calabria. Many people in Malta, including those in Mellieħa, Sliema, San Ġiljan, Msida, and Valletta, reported feeling the tremor, which was strong enough to wake some residents.
