Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Ian Borg, has welcomed the new US Ambassador to Malta, Somers Farkas, who was appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary on October 7, 2025. This marks a significant milestone in the longstanding relationship between Malta and the United States, with both countries sharing common values and interests.
Borg, who has been actively involved in promoting Malta’s interests on the international stage, recently served as Chair-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in 2024. His leadership has been recognized by international partners, including Ambassador Neil Holland, who praised Malta’s dedication to multilateralism and commitment to the principles of the Council of Europe, OSCE, and the UN Charter.
The new ambassador, Somers Farkas, is expected to play a key role in further strengthening bilateral ties between Malta and the US, particularly in areas such as trade, security, and tourism. The US Embassy in Malta, located in Ta’ Qali National Park, Attard, looks forward to working with the Maltese government and people to advance shared interests and promote mutual understanding.
