Malta’s foreign trade relations are thriving, with the country establishing strong ties with various nations around the world. The European Union is Malta’s major trading partner, accounting for more than half of Malta’s imports and 39.3% of Malta’s exports. The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, in partnership with the Government of Malta, has launched TradeMalta, an initiative dedicated to helping Malta-based businesses go international. This public-private partnership aims to provide support and resources to local companies looking to expand their operations globally.

Malta’s trade relations with countries like the United States are also on the rise. In 2020, the US accounted for 3% of Malta’s total trade, with US exports to Malta reaching $132.6 million. The country’s ports, managed by the Ports Authority of Malta, play a crucial role in facilitating international trade, with direct shipping connections to other countries.

The growth of maritime trade in Malta has contributed significantly to the country’s economic development. With its strong trade relations and strategic location, Malta is poised to continue its growth as a major player in international trade.
