Enemalta, Malta’s electricity utility company, has made significant strides in enhancing the reliability and resilience of the country’s electricity distribution system. Although the exact number of new substations commissioned this year is 54, exceeding the initial target of 45, these upgrades are part of a broader effort to modernize the network. The new substations, along with the upgrade of 76 existing ones, will provide more alternative connections, reducing the likelihood of supply interruptions and enabling faster restoration times.
In conjunction with Infrastructure Malta and Transport Malta, Enemalta has also begun laying 60 kilometers of new underground cables in 21 localities across Malta and Gozo. This initiative aims to further strengthen the distribution system, minimizing disruptions and ensuring a more efficient supply of electricity. Additionally, 166 new low-voltage feeders have been connected to the network, and 47 kilometers of 400V/230V aerial lines have been replaced to modernize the distribution network.
These upgrades are crucial in preparing the electricity distribution network for future demands and enhancing its overall resilience. Enemalta’s ongoing efforts, including the development of new distribution centers in Naxxar and Siġġiewi, demonstrate the company’s commitment to providing reliable electricity services to the Maltese community.
