Mediterranean tourism must strike a delicate balance between growth and sustainability, according to Malta’s Minister for Tourism, Ian Borg. Speaking at a tourism conference, Borg emphasized the need for responsible tourism practices that prioritize the region’s environmental and cultural heritage.

The Mediterranean, one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, faces challenges such as overcrowding, strain on local resources, and environmental degradation. Borg stressed that sustainable tourism is crucial to preserving the region’s unique charm and ensuring the long-term viability of the industry.

To achieve this balance, Borg called for innovative approaches, investment in infrastructure, and collaboration among stakeholders. He also highlighted Malta’s efforts to promote sustainable tourism, including initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and protect natural habitats. By prioritizing sustainability, the Mediterranean region can continue to thrive as a premier tourist destination while preserving its rich cultural and environmental assets.
