A campaign event for Argentina’s President Javier Milei in Buenos Aires turned violent when protesters hurled rocks, plants, and bottles at him. The incident occurred amid a corruption scandal involving Milei’s sister and right-hand woman, Karina Milei, who is accused of pocketing funds meant for people with disabilities. The protesters demonstrated against the alleged corruption at the public disability agency, leading to scuffles between supporters and opponents of the libertarian leader.

Milei, who was standing in the back of a pickup truck greeting his supporters, was quickly whisked away by his security detail after the attack. Fortunately, he sustained no injuries, but a female supporter suffered rib injuries and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The president addressed the scandal prior to the attack, denying any wrongdoing and stating that the allegations were lies. The scandal has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for accountability and transparency in the government’s handling of disability funds.

The violent incident has highlighted the deep divisions and tensions in Argentina, particularly surrounding the government’s policies and actions. As the elections approach, the situation is likely to remain volatile, with both sides dug in and determined to make their voices heard.
