Dubai-based airline Emirates has implemented heightened security measures in response to recent sabotage attacks in Lebanon, prohibiting passengers from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies onboard its planes. This decision comes after a wave of exploding communication devices, allegedly orchestrated by the Iran-backed Hezbollah group, which blamed Israel for the attacks. The airline has explicitly stated that all passengers traveling to, from, or via Dubai are prohibited from transporting pagers and walkie-talkies in checked or cabin baggage, with any such items found in passengers’ hand luggage or checked baggage to be confiscated by Dubai Police.

The devastating blasts that occurred last month in Lebanon resulted in the loss of at least 37 lives and injured nearly 3,000 people, prompting Emirates to take proactive measures to ensure passenger safety. In addition to the ban on pagers and walkie-talkies, Emirates has also extended flight cancellations for select Middle East destinations due to regional escalation. The airline’s routes to Iraq and Iran will remain suspended until Tuesday, following a major Iranian attack on Israel that saw missiles flying over Iraq and Iran.

Flights to Jordan, initially suspended, are set to resume on Sunday. However, services to and from Lebanon will remain grounded until October 15, as Israel intensifies its attacks on the country, including areas near Beirut’s only airport. Several other carriers have also suspended or reduced services to and from Beirut and other Middle East airports, citing concerns over regional stability and safety.

Emirates’ decision to prioritize passenger safety reflects the gravity of the situation and the need for enhanced security protocols. As the situation continues to unfold, Emirates will likely maintain its heightened security measures to ensure the well-being of those traveling on its flights. The airline’s actions demonstrate its commitment to protecting passengers and crew amidst escalating tensions in the region. With regional tensions prompting heightened security measures across airlines, Emirates remains vigilant in its efforts to provide a secure travel experience.
