Rangers Football Club has made significant changes to its leadership, sacking chief executive Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell. This decision comes after a disappointing start to the season, with the team struggling to find consistency on the pitch. Stewart, who joined Rangers in December, and Thelwell, who was appointed as sporting director earlier this year, had been under pressure following a series of poor results, including a 9-1 Champions League thrashing by Club Brugge.
Chairman Andrew Cavenagh explained that the club is looking for “something different” to move forward, adding that the decision was made to give the team a fresh start. Fraser Thornton, a director, will take on the role of acting CEO while the club searches for permanent replacements. Thelwell had been credited with bringing in several new players, including Youssef Chermiti, but had faced criticism for some of the club’s summer signings.
