Malta’s Eurovision Contest submission garnered controversy because the maltese word kant was used in the lyrics. The word has a slight similarity to an English slur referring to the female anatomy.
The sony by Miriana Conte will now see slight modifications without any changes to its structure, artistic integrity and style. Conte and Public Broadcasting Service now has less than a week to submit the entry to Eurovision.
Conte announced the change through her facebook page.
“We’ve just been notified that European Broadcasting Union – EBU has decided against using the Maltese word ‘Kant’ in our entry in the Eurovision Song Contest. While I’m shocked and disappointed, especially since we have less than a week to submit the song, I promise you this: the show will go on — Diva NOT down,” stated Conte.
Meanwhile, Malta’s chances at winning has dropped to 2% due to this controversy. Eurovision has also removed the song title Kant from its listings and naming only Miriana Conte in its rankings. Sweden is leading the winning odds currently.
