Yorgen Fenech, the Maltese businessman accused of masterminding the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, was indeed granted bail, but his release has been stalled due to a complex technical procedure.

Fenech was granted bail against an €80,000 deposit and a guarantee of €120,000, with his aunt, Moira Fenech, posting her 15.45% share of the Tumas Group as collateral. However, despite meeting these conditions, Fenech remains in prison.

The exact nature of the technical procedure causing the delay is unclear, but it’s likely related to the complex legal proceedings surrounding Fenech’s case. Fenech is facing charges of promoting, organizing, or financing a criminal association with the intention of committing criminal offenses, as well as being complicit in the murder of Caruana Galizia.

The case has been ongoing since 2019, with numerous pre-trial hearings and delays. The slow pace of the proceedings has been criticized by Caruana Galizia’s family, who are seeking justice for her murder.
