Iran’s attempt to target the joint US-UK military base at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean has been deemed unsuccessful, according to a UK official source. The base, located approximately 4,000km from Iran, was targeted with two ballistic missiles, but one failed mid-flight and the other was intercepted by a US warship. The UK government has condemned the attack as “reckless” and a threat to British interests and allies. The incident has raised concerns about Iran’s missile capabilities, with some experts suggesting that the country may have developed intermediate-range ballistic missiles. The UK has allowed the US to use its bases, including Diego Garcia, for defensive operations against Iranian missile sites.

The attack on Diego Garcia is significant due to the base’s strategic importance, hosting long-range bombers, naval deployments, and surveillance operations. Iran’s actions have sparked debate about its true missile range, previously claimed to be capped at 2,000km. The incident has also led to discussions about the potential escalation of conflict in the region.
