A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after driving his car into pedestrians in Derby, UK, injuring seven people, some seriously. The incident occurred on Saturday night around 9:30 pm in Friar Gate, a popular nightlife spot. The victims, who suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, were treated at the scene and taken to Royal Derby Hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.
The suspect, a 36-year-old man originally from India who has lived in the UK for several years, was arrested shortly after the incident. Counter-terrorism officers are assisting with the investigation, but police stress that the incident is not currently being treated as terrorism. The motive behind the attack is still unclear, and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
