A new permanent exhibition about the Ukraine war has opened at the Berlin Story Bunker, a former Nazi air-raid shelter in Berlin, on the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The “Ukraine Museum” showcases a vast collection of war artefacts, including remnants of Russian drones, missiles, and personal testimonies from Ukrainians, aiming to raise awareness about the conflict’s physical reality and garner continued European support for Kyiv. The exhibition is housed in a 300-square-metre space within the 6,500-square-metre bunker complex, which also features displays on Nazism and Germany’s post-1945 history.
The museum’s curator, Wieland Giebel, hopes the exhibition will help visitors understand the war’s brutality and human cost, while Ukraine’s former deputy defence minister, Hanna Maliar, emphasizes Germany’s crucial role in supporting Ukraine. The exhibition’s timing is significant, as international attention on Ukraine faces challenges from “war fatigue” and shif2ting priorities.
