The European Union has strongly condemned the US decision to impose visa bans on five European figures involved in regulating tech companies, including former European Commissioner Thierry Breton. The US State Department accused them of seeking to “coerce” American social media platforms into censoring viewpoints they oppose, sparking outrage across Europe. France, Germany, and Spain have also denounced the move, with French President Emmanuel Macron calling it “intimidation and coercion” aimed at undermining European digital sovereignty. The EU has requested clarifications from US authorities and warned it will respond “swiftly and decisively” to defend its regulatory autonomy if needed.
