The European Union has strongly criticized China’s decision to impose provisional tariffs on dairy products, calling the move “unjustified and unwarranted”. China announced tariffs ranging from 21.9% to 42.7% on EU dairy imports, citing alleged subsidies harming China’s domestic industry. However, the EU argues that the investigation is based on “questionable allegations and insufficient evidence”. The tariffs, effective from December 23, target products like cheese, cream and milk, impacting EU exports worth $589 million in 2024. The EU is examining China’s preliminary findings and will provide comments, amidst escalating trade tensions between the two economic powers.
