Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is urging his young star Estevao to ignore comparisons with Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, emphasizing that the Brazilian winger should focus on his own development. Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League clash against Barcelona, Maresca praised Estevao’s talent, saying, “Estevao is already playing at a high level, he is already in the starting eleven with Brazil. For sure, he is very young, he can do many things better, but we are very happy with him”.
Maresca wants Estevao to enjoy the game and not worry about comparisons to other players, including Yamal, who is just three months younger. “The most important thing for Estevao is that he has to enjoy fully, he has to be happy, and not think about being better than this player or another player, but only think about himself and try to be a better than himself day by day, try to work hard, improve,” Maresca said.
Estevao has impressed since joining Chelsea from Palmeiras, scoring nine goals for club and country, and Maresca believes he has the potential to become an important player for the team. Meanwhile, Chelsea will be without Cole Palmer, who is recovering from a toe injury, and Maresca is hopeful he’ll return soon.
