Deborah Schembri, a former junior minister for planning, has been appointed to the board of the Broadcasting Corporation (BCA). Schembri, who served as parliamentary secretary for planning and simplification from 2016, brought significant reforms to Malta’s Lands Department and introduced initiatives like an amnesty bill for buildings with planning irregularities.
As a Labour Party member, Schembri was a prominent figure in Maltese politics, leading the pro-divorce movement in 2011 and advocating for civil rights. Her appointment to the BCA board is likely to be seen as a significant move, given her experience in public service and policy-making.
