Barcelona’s young midfielder Gavi is set to undergo surgery on his injured meniscus after conservative treatments failed to resolve the problem. The 21-year-old has been sidelined since late August due to persistent pain in his right knee, the same knee where he suffered a torn cruciate ligament and another meniscus injury in 2023. According to the club, Gavi underwent intense sporting stress tests on Sunday, which indicated that surgery was the best option to guarantee a full and safe recovery.

The surgery, scheduled for Tuesday, will be an arthroscopic examination under the supervision of the club’s medical staff. While the exact recovery time hasn’t been specified, sources suggest Gavi could be out for at least 4 to 6 weeks, potentially targeting a comeback in late October or early November. This injury comes at a crucial time for Barcelona, which is currently second in La Liga and preparing for important fixtures, including a Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

Gavi’s absence will be a significant blow to the team, especially considering his limited playing time this season. He has only played two matches, both as a substitute in August. Additionally, Barcelona is dealing with other injury woes, including Fermin Lopez, who is expected to be out for three weeks with a muscular injury in his left hip. Other players like Lamine Yamal, Alejandro Balde, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are also sidelined, posing challenges for manager Hansi Flick as the team navigates its domestic and European commitments.
