Early this morning, Ukrainian authorities verified that Russia launched a deadly overnight missile and drone bombardment on Kyiv, killing at least six people—including a six-year-old boy—and injuring dozens more.
The military director of the city, Tymur Tkachenko, said that the strike ruined 27 locations spread over four districts of the capital. With emergency personnel looking for people trapped under the debris, rescue efforts went on late into the morning.
President Volodymyr Zelensky posted images of the damage, including smoking garbage and crumbling buildings. On Telegram, he said it’s a terrible morning in Kyiv. “The violent Russian strikes decimated entire apartment buildings and damaged hospitals and schools.”
Although Russia says it doesn’t intentionally attack civilians, its most recent increase of air strikes has most often struck urban areas some distance from active front lines. Still in its fourth year, the war keeps costing many civilian lives amid repeated worldwide requests for de-escalation.
