Marcus Rashford’s arrival will help Barcelona’s already great attack line.
A person familiar with the transfer told The Associated Press news outlet on Monday that Rashford is in Barcelona to finish a transfer from Manchester United.
Giving the once thought to be among Europe’s best young talents, the 27-year-old England forward an opportunity to revive a career that had stagnated in recent years after he dropped out of favour at United and finished last season on loan at Aston Villa, the loan deal would give him this chance.
Spanish media reported that the one-year loan would present Barcelona a chance to acquire Rashford for around $35 million.
Barcelona’s attack was the best in Spanish football and one of the most prolific across Europe last season, yet they had been seeking to bring another player to the front line with young star Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and veteran Robert Lewandowski.
Including two FA Cups and the Europa League, Rashford has won five significant awards and scored 138 goals in 429 games during his whole career at United.
He battled, though, to constantly live up to the buzz around him when he came on the scene as a teenager in 2016 – managing 20 or more goals only in three seasons. Over his two past seasons at United, he scored a total of 15 goals and contributed four more in 17 games on loan for Villa.
With 102 goals, 24 more than runner-up Real Madrid, Barcelona claimed the title in the Spanish league. Before being eliminated by Inter Milan in the semi-finals, the Catalan team also led the Champions League with 43 goals, five more than champion Paris Saint-Germain.
