Several US allies have expressed skepticism towards President Donald Trump’s proposal to establish a “Board of Peace” aimed at rebuilding Gaza, with a permanent membership fee of $1 billion. The initiative, part of Trump’s 20-point peace plan, has received mixed reactions from world leaders. While some countries, like Hungary and Vietnam, have accepted invitations to join the board, others, including India, are still reviewing the proposal.
The board, led by Trump, would oversee Gaza’s post-war reconstruction and governance, with members contributing $1 billion for permanent seats. Those not paying the fee would have three-year terms. The plan has faced criticism from European leaders, who question its structure and priorities, particularly given the inclusion of countries like Turkey and Qatar, which have ties to Hamas.
Israel has also objected to the board, stating it wasn’t coordinated with Jerusalem and runs counter to its policy. The US is expected to announce its official list of members soon, potentially during the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos.
