President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Wednesday that Ukraine had obtained the repatriation of a new set of POWs from Russia.
Writing on Telegram, Zelenskiy said the most recent release included ill or severely wounded soldiers and marked a major milestone by bringing the whole number of Ukrainian POWs returned to over 1,000 under agreements struck during discussions in Turkey.
“The servicemen who are returning today defended Ukraine in different sectors of the front,” Zelenskiy wrote. “A significant number spent more than three years as prisoners. All are receiving key support and medical assistance.”
