Starmer, who has faced calls to resign over his appointment of Peter Mandelson as US ambassador, emphasized his commitment to the people and the country, stating, “I will never walk away from the mandate I was given to change this country”.
The controversy surrounds Mandelson’s ties to Epstein, which have led to his resignation as ambassador and from the Labour Party. Starmer has apologized for “believing Mandelson’s lies” and acknowledged that the appointment was a mistake. The scandal has also led to the resignation of two senior aides, Morgan McSweeney and Tim Allan.
Despite the turmoil, Starmer has received support from his cabinet and party leaders, including Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham. The Prime Minister has vowed to focus on addressing the cost-of-living crisis and improving living standards, rather than engaging in internal party conflicts.
